A Beginner’s Guide to Auditioning

Auditioning for the first time can feel a little intimidating—but it doesn’t have to be. At Studio 42 & Co., we welcome performers of all experience levels, and every audition is simply an opportunity to learn, grow, and share your creativity.

The first step is to come prepared. Read all audition information carefully so you know what is expected, whether that’s a song, a monologue, or cold readings. Choose material that fits your voice and personality, and take time to practice so you feel comfortable and confident.

When you arrive, remember that directors aren’t looking for perfection—they’re looking for potential, personality, and how you fit into the overall cast. Be yourself, make strong choices, and don’t be afraid to take risks. Confidence often comes from simply being prepared and willing to try.

It’s also important to stay positive and open-minded throughout the process. Not every audition will result in a role, and that’s okay. Each experience helps you improve and become more comfortable in the audition room.

Most importantly, have fun with it. Theatre is about storytelling, creativity, and connection.

Whether it’s your first audition or your tenth, every time you step into the room is a chance to grow and take one step closer to creating something incredible.
